Mary Lou Slaughter | Duwamish

Introducing our first Descendant - Mary Lou Slaughter!

Mary Lou is the great great great granddaughter of Princess Angeline and lives in Port Orchard, Washington. Princess Angeline as the locals in Seattle knew her, was Edward Curtis' first Native American that he took portraits of in 1896. Ironically Mary Lou was our first Descendant to be photographed for our project. :)   Princess Angeline was the daughter of Chief Seattle of which Seattle is named for.  She is of the Duwamish Tribe in the Pacific Northwest

Mary Lou was bullied as a child and decided to hide her Native heritage until turning 50. Can't wait to share her whole story with you in the book!
